Pre-Hospital Hemorrhage Control: Bleeding is Still Winning

Hemorrhage is the leading cause of preventable deaths in the civilian setting reports Jeremy W. Cannon, MD, of Penn Medicine’s Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care & Emergency Surgery. In this presentation, Dr. Cannon, the former Chief of Trauma & Critical Care at San Antonio Military Medical Center, brings his expertise to bear on the chain of survival, including such issues as compressible vs. noncompressible hemorrhage; junctional hemorrhages; direct pressure hemostatic dressings; tourniquets (improvised and commercial); pelvic binders; endovascular aortic occlusion; and blood and plasma in the pre-hospital setting. Dr. Cannon's presentation includes case reports, topical references and future directions for bleeding control and resuscitation.
