In this video, Sarcoma Program Director Kristy L. Weber, MD, describes a young woman who arrived at Penn Orthopaedics with a single mission - to save her leg from amputation after receiving a confirmed diagnosis of synovial sarcoma of the knee during surgery for a presumed cyst. Dr. Weber describes the complications the cancer presented—its location between the nerves and blood vessels behind the knee in an area contaminated by prior surgery—and the approach developed to eradicate the malignant tissue while preserving the appearance and function of the patient’s leg.
