At Updates for the PCP, a Penn Medicine-sponsored event, Matt Birnholz, MD, of ReachMD, interviews two members of the faculty at Pennsylvania Hospital, radiologist Brian S. Englander, MD, and oncologic surgeon Ari D. Brooks, MD, about their respective roles in breast cancer management.
Dr. Brooks discusses recent innovations in breast cancer treatment at Penn Medicine, and the Penn Pathway, an algorithm for the standardization of care for patients as they enter and progress through the breast cancer treatment program at Penn.
Discussing 3D mammography, or tomosynthesis, Dr. Englander examines the modality’s advantages (a relative increase in cancer detection and reduced radiation exposure via fewer callbacks) and disadvantages (fewer benefits in dense breast tissue) as well as recent breast density reporting legislation and the potential advantages of cryoablation.
